Knights Earn Decisive Win over Salem Tennis

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Southern Virginia emerged with a decisive 9-0 victory over the Salem in tennis action on Saturday afternoon at the Bert Lain Tennis Center.

The tandem of Lauren Lefrandt / Leeanne Aldrich opened doubles action with an 8-0 win against Salem's Grace Wilson / Carmen Wilkins for the first point of the day. That was quickly followed by an 8-0 triumph by Morgan Blount / Alyssa Sewell, who downed Makenna Mason / Lily Farr.

The Knights moved their lead to 3-0 with a doubles win by Audrey McBride / Natalie Tetteron, who posted an 8-3 victory against Salem's Morgan Sholz / Haley Gilley.

Aldrich pushed the Southern Virginia lead to 4-0 in singles action with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph against Carmen Wilkins in the clash of No. 5 seeds. McBride secured the team win for the Knights by claiming a 6-1, 6-2 win over Farr in the meeting of third-seeded singles.

Sewell stretched the Knights' advantage to 6-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 win as she downed No. 2 seed Wilson. Southern Virginia continued to roll as Michele Valentine fought past the Spirits' Hailey Gilley to earn a 6-4, 6-3 win.

Blount eventually laid claim to the seventh point of the day for the Knights, by virtue of a 6-2, 7-5 win against Mason in the No. 1 singles pairings. That win was followed by a 6-0, 6-1 victory by Tetteron, who downed Alyssa Consentino.
