Spirits Claim Decisive 7-2 Win Over Hollins

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Salem tennis team picked up its second win of the season in decisive fashion, 7-2, over visiting Hollins on Saturday afternoon at the Bert Lain Tennis Center.

Morgan Sholz was responsible for one of the wins by the Spirits as the No. 3-seed on the Spirits posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Alexis Morring in singles action. Teammate Haley Gilley, who served as Salem's No. 4-seed in the match, came through with a straight set win (6-0, 6-0) over Leandra Cameron.

The Salem tandem of Grace Wilson and Alyssa Cosentino picked up two points with wins by default. Meanwhile, Hollins grabbed its only two points with wins by Jessica Williebeek-LeMair and Kateri Johnson in singles play. Williebeek-LeMair came away with a hard-fought 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) win over Makenna Mason, in the clash of No. 1 seeds, while Johnson toppled Lily Farr in the second-seed pairings.

Farr and Mason opened doubles action with an 8-1 victory over Morring and Johnson, which provided Salem its first point of the match. Meanwhile Gilley and Scholz emerged with an 8-3 win over Williebeek-LeMair and Cameron in the clash of No. 2 doubles.
