Salem Tennis Wins Third Straight, Downs Guilford 5-4

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Salem tennis team picked up its third straight win and second victory in as many days as the Spirits claimed a 5-4 win over Guilford in a meeting of the two units in Greensboro.

Guilford established the lead early, assuming a 2-1 advantage in doubles play, after the tandem of Madyson Schreiber and Delaney Taylor posted an 9-7 win over Makenna Mason and Lily Farr in the meeting of No. 1 seeds. Teammates Hannah Pardue and Claire Rogers quickly followed with an 8-6 win against Salem's duo of Hailey Gilley and Grace Wilson in No. 2 seeded action.

The Spirits bounced back with an 8-4 win as Carmen Wilkins and Lauren Holman emerged with an 8-4 victory over Guilford's No. 3 seeded tandem of Bea Nayibizi and Abby Boohar.

Mason evened the score at 2-2 for Salem with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Schreiber in a battle of No. 1 singles. Pardue came through with the third Guilford point of the afternoon with a 6-0, 6-1 against Farr, but Gilley quickly answered with 6-2, 6-3 win over Taylor in a meeting of No. 3 singles.

Rogers put the Quakers within one point of the match victory following a 7-5, 4-6, 10-5 win over Wilson. However, Salem bounced back to claim wins in both No. 5 and No. 6 singles, earning the win. Wilkins was responsible for the No. 5 singles win (6-3, 6-4), which came Hannah Arnett, while Lauren Holman posted a 6-3, 6-1 win against Megan Kimpel.
