WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Salem tennis team wraps up the fall portion of its 2019-20 season on Saturday, Oct. 11, when it squares off against both Davis & Elkins and King University in the Hollins Invitational in Hollins, Va.

Salem begins the day with a clash against Davis & Elkins at 11 a.m. before facing King at 2 p.m. in an afternoon match. The two matches will be based off of a best-of-five point scoring system that will include three singles pairings and two doubles matches.

Salem has rebounded from a season-opening setback to Southern Virginia (9-0) to claim wins over Ferrum (6-3), Hollins (7-2) and Guilford (5-4) in succession.

The Spirits are led individually by the play of Haley Gilley (3-1), Carmen Wilkins (2-1) and Makenna Mason (2-2). Gilley collected two of her three singles wins as the No. 4 seed for the Spirits, while Wilsons came through with victories as the No. 5 and No. 6 seed. Mason's two wins on the season both came as the No. 1 singles player.

The top doubles unit for the Spirits is Gilley and Morgan Sholz, who are 2-1 in the early stages of the season with both wins coming as the No. 2 pair. The other two doubles wins for Salem came from the tandem of Lauren Holman / Carmen Wilkins as well as Lily Farr / Makenna Mason.

Davis & Elkins comes into the match with a 1-0 record after earning a 5-2 win over Shepherd on Oct. 2. The Senators also took part in the ITA Regionals on Sept. 21.

King began its season with a 7-0 loss to Young Harris on Wednesday, Oct. 9, in Bristol, Tenn. The Tornados are set to close out the fall season with matches against Mars Hill (Oct. 23) and UVA-Wise (Oct. 26).
