BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Salem tennis team suffered just its second road loss of the season, falling by a 9-0 score against USA South Conference foe Southern Virginia on Wednesday afternoon in Buena Vista, Va.
Paula Snelson and Jillian Arnold provided the Knights with the first point of the afternoon, claiming an 8-1 victory against Salem's top-seeded tandem of Adley Keim and Mariana Faint. The No. 2 seeded doubles tandem of Lia Savage and Remly Fry, who posted an 8-0 win against Alana Bridges and Alyx Diggs.
The Knights moved their lead to 3-0 in the match as the duo of Lydia Delich and Nadia Molanphy posted an 8-0 win against Salem's Abrielle Eckenroth and Cadence Durham.
Snelson claimed her second point of the afternoon in No. 1 singles, earning a 6-3, 6-0 victory against Keim. Meanwhile, Arnold also picked up a singles point, battling past Faint by scores of 6-4, 6-3 to give Southern Virginia the decisive point for the team win.
Delich, who again squared off against Durham, posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory in No. 3 singles. Fry moved the lead to 7-0 for the Knights with a 6-1, 6-0 decision against Emily Griffis in the clash of No. 4 singles.
Molanphy extended the Knights' margin to 8-0 after taking down Bridges by scores of 6-2, 6-1 in No. 5 singles. The ninth and final point came from Savage, who defeated Eckenroth in No. 6 singles by scores of 6-0, 6-1.
