Volleyball defeats Peace for first time in three years

Raleigh, NC- The Salem College volleyball team beat Peace College on the road in four sets (25-23, 25-22, 14-25, 25-21). Peace defeated Salem ten times in the past three years, but Salem was able to get their revenge in the two teams final match of the season. Salem improves to 7-15, and Peace drops to 9-14 with the loss.

Salem fought back from a 22-19 deficit in the first set to win six of the final seven points of the set. The second set was tied 21-21, and the Spirits won the last four points to take a 2-0 set lead. The Pacers would fight back to win the third set. Salem was down 13-11 in the fourth set, and went on a 7-1 run to make it 18-14 in their favor. They would hold off Peace in that set to take the match.

Christine Tillman (King, NC) had 12 kills, 18 digs, and 5 blocks to lead the Spirits. Randi Roppolo (Weeki Wachee, FL) also had a strong night with 11 kills and 2 block assists. Sara Maher (Longmont, CO) had 36 set assists, and Khadija Layne (Dorchester, MA) led the team with 28 digs.

Salem will return to action this weekend with three matches at home. They will host Guilford and Methodist on Saturday, and Spelman in a conference match on Sunday.
