Volleyball loses to Guilford and Methodist

Winston-Salem, NC- The Salem College volleyball team lost two matches at home today to Guilford College and Methodist University. The Spirits are coming off of an impressive first victory at Peace College on Thursday night. Guilford beat Salem in three sets (20-25, 18-25, 14-25). Methodist also beat Salem in three (21-25, 12-25, 12-25). Khadija Layne (Dorchester, MA) had 19 digs on the day to lead the Spirits. Salem falls to 7-17 with the two losses.

In the first match against Guilford, Sara Maher (Longmont, CO) had 18 set assists and 1 service ace. Randi Roppolo (Weeki Wachee, FL) led the team with 6 kills. Christine Tillman (King, NC) and Layne each had nine digs to lead the Spirits.

Salem had 10 kills from Tillman against Methodist. Maher also had 18 set assists in that match, and Layne finished with 10 digs. Tillman, Roppolo, and Allegra Thomson (Dalzell, SC) each had a service ace against the Monarchs.

Salem returns to action tomorrow when they host Spelman College in GSAC action at noon.
