Volleyball splits matches at Meredith Matchup

Raleigh, NC-The Salem College volleyball team split their matches on Sunday in the 2009 Meredith Matchup. The Spirits defeated Spelman College 3-1 (25-13, 25-23, 24-26, 25-16) in their morning match. The team lost to Peace in the night match 3-1 (25-12, 20-25, 20-25, 16-25). Salem went 2-2 overall at the tournament, and their overall record improves to 3-2.

In the morning match against Spelman, Christine Tillman (King, NC) led the team with 16 kills, 14 digs, 3 aces, and 1.5 blocks.  Randi Roppolo (Weeki Wachee, FL) had a strong match with 15 kills and 9 digs. The Spirits had strong defense from Brittany Miller (Hays, NC), and serving from Allegra Thomson (Dalzell, SC) and Lee Ann Holmes (Wilmington, OH). Sara Maher provided 43 assists and 3 digs in the match. 

Roppolo continued her strong play in the night match against Peace with 14 kills and 13 digs. Khadija Layne (Dorchester, MA) led the team in digs with 22, and she also had 9 kills. Maher had 32 assists and 3 service aces.

The Spirits will get another chance against Peace on September 8th at 7:00 when they host the Pacers.
