Volleyball wins first GSAC match of season

Raleigh, NC- The Salem College volleyball team won their first Great South Athletic Conference (GSAC) match in school history in their first try. Salem defeated Agnes Scott in three games (25-18, 25-21, 25-15) to improve their GSAC record to 1-0, and their overall record is now 2-1. The team is taking part in the 2009 Meredith College Matchup this weekend. They lost to Meredith in their second match of the day (26-24, 12-25, 18-25, 12-25).

In the match against Agnes Scott, Randi Roppolo (Weeki Wachee, FL) led the team with 8 kills and 8 digs. Sara Maher (Longmont, CO) had a strong match with 22 set assists and 3 service aces. Christine Tillman (King, NC) had 2 blocks, and Khadija Layne (Dorchester, MA) had 3 aces.

In the second match, Tillman led the team in kills (15), digs (16), and service aces (2). Maher led the team again in assists with 27. Brittany Miller (Hays, NC) also had 14 digs.

Salem will return to action tomorrow in the Meredith Matchup when they play Peace and Spelman.
