  • Tillman and Roppolo play volleyball in Italy and Croatia

    Two Salem College volleyball athletes competed for the United States Nfinity Team in the 2011 European Global Challenge. Christine Tillman (King, NC), former standout player for the Spirits and the new assistant coach for the team, and Randi Roppolo (Weeki Wachee, FL) were the two representatives from Salem on the team.

    The Salem College volleyball program is pleased to announce that Brittani Stewart has committed to attend Salem next fall. Stewart played middle and outside hitter for Coach Becky Miller at Davie County High School in Mocksville, NC for four years. The Spirits volleyball team is coming off of two consecutive fourth-place finishes in the Great South Athletic Conference.
  • Hunt High's Nixon commits to play volleyball at Salem

    The Salem College volleyball program is excited to announce that Roslyn Nixon has committed to attend Salem next fall. Nixon played outside hitter for Coach Teresa Allen at Hunt High School in Wilson, NC for four years. The Spirits volleyball team is coming off of two consecutive fourth-place finishes in the Great South Athletic Conference.
  • Patton High's Causby commits to play volleyball at Salem

    The Salem College volleyball program is pleased to announce that Courtney Causby has committed to attend Salem next fall. Causby played middle attacker for Coach Serena Fuller and Morgan Miller at Patton High School in Morganton, NC for four years. The Spirits volleyball team is coming off of two consecutive fourth-place finishes in the Great South Athletic Conference.

    Katie should get the iron-woman award! She always gives 100%, she plays hurt and always puts team before self. She is a great player to have here at Salem College. She really stepped up for us by playing middle (not her natural position) and she does a great job! She is passionate about volleyball and is working hard to make Salem Volleyball a success in our conference. It is wonderful watching her get better everyday and knowing that she has what it takes to lead our team in the future.
  • Tillman selected to both GSAC All-Conference and All-Academic Teams

    The Great South Athletic Conference announced that Christine Tillman (King, NC) was selected to the GSAC Volleyball All-Conference and All-Academic teams. Tillman capped off an excellent career at Salem this weekend in the GSAC quarterfinals. She owns Salem records in kills and blocks.
  • Volleyball falls in five sets to LaGrange in GSAC quarterfinals

    The Salem College volleyball team lost in an extremely close match against LaGrange in the Great South Athletic Conference quarterfinals hosted by Agnes Scott. LaGrange needed five close sets to defeat the Spirits (25-23, 15-25, 25-21, 24-26, 15-17). Christine Tillman (King, NC) had an excellent last match at Salem with 9 kills, 13 digs, 4 solo blocks, and 9 block assists. Salem finishes the regular season with an 8-21 overall record.
  • Volleyball loses last regular season match at Guilford

    The Salem College volleyball team lost their last regular season match last night at Guilford in a non-conference game. Guilford defeated the Spirits in three sets (18-25, 15-25, 14-25). Sara Maher (Longmont, CO) led Salem with 17 set assists. The Spirits fall to 8-20 overall with the loss.
  • Volleyball prepares for Great South Tournament in Georgia

    The Salem College volleyball team is preparing for a trip to the Great South Athletic Conference Tournament this weekend hosted by Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA. The quarterfinals and semifinals will take place on November 5th, and the championship is on the 6th. Salem will play LaGrange College in the quarterfinals. The Spirits are the four seed and LaGrange is the five seed. Salem defeated LaGrange 3-2 in five sets when the two teams met at Piedmont on October 16th.
  • Volleyball falls in four sets at Hollins

    The Salem College volleyball team lost at Hollins University this afternoon. Salem fell to Hollins in four close sets (26-24, 21-25, 24-26, 23-25). Keri Nolan (Calabash, NC) led the Spirits with 12 kills and she also had 2 block assists. The Spirits fall to 8-19 on the season with the loss.
  • Volleyball finishes fourth in GSAC

    The Salem College volleyball team lost four matches this weekend played at both Maryville and Virginia Intermont. Salem fell to Maryville (11-25, 22-25, 8-25) in a Great South conference match. The other three loses were non-conference matches against Covenant, Virginia Intermont, and Southern Virginia. Salem finishes their conference play in fourth place, and they will play LaGrange in the conference quarterfinals. The Spirits overall record falls to 8-18.
  • Volleyball comes up short in 3-1 loss against Peace

    The Salem College volleyball team fell short in a home non-conference loss against Peace College. The Spirits fell to the Pacers 3-1 (18-25, 25-22, 20-25, 16-25). The match was the last home match for senior Christine Tillman (King, NC). Tillman has been a leader in most statistical categories for the Spirits over her four years. Salem falls to 8-14 with the loss.
  • Volleyball splits a pair of road GSAC matches

    The Salem College volleyball team split two Great South conference matches this weekend. The Spirits defeated LaGrange College (25-17, 19-25, 25-13, 22-25, 16-14) and lost to Piedmont College (16-25, 14-25, 16-25). The team also lost a non-conference match at Toccoa Falls on Friday. Salem is now 8-13 overall this season and they improve to 4-2 in the GSAC.

    The Salem College volleyball team defeated neighbor Piedmont Baptist College for the second time this season in a non-conference game. Salem defeated Piedmont Baptist in four sets (25-20, 25-19, 21-25, 25-17). Keri Nolan (Calabash, NC) led the Spirits with 17 kills in the match. Salem improves to 7-11 on the season.
  • Volleyball drops home non-conference match against Methodist

    The Salem College volleyball team dropped a non-conference match at home against Methodist University. The Spirits played a strong first two sets, but Methodist prevailed with a 3-1 (21-25, 25-19, 15-25, 12-25) win. Christine Tillman (King, NC) led the Spirits with 10 kills. Salem falls to 6-10 on the season.
  • Volleyball improves to 3-1 in the Great South

    The Salem College volleyball team split two Great South matches today hosted at Wesleyan College. Salem defeated Wesleyan in three games (25-14, 25-11, 25-16). The Spirits fell to Huntingdon College in four sets (15-25, 25-22, 20-25, 16-25). Sara Maher (Longmont, CO) led the Spirits in both matches in set assists. Salem improves to 3-1 in the conference, and 6-9 overall.
  • Volleyball starts Great South play with two wins against Agnes Scott and Spelman

    The Salem College volleyball team won their first two Great South matches today at home. The Spirits defeated Agnes Scott this morning in an exciting five-set match (26-24, 25-22, 23-25, 18-25, 15-11). Salem also defeated Spelman this afternoon in four games (25-19, 25-13, 20-25, 25-22). Christine Tillman (King, NC) led the Spirits with 25 total kills on the day. Salem improves to 2-0 in the GSAC, and to 5-8 on the season.

    The Salem College volleyball team lost in three sets to non-conference opponent Guilford College tonight in the Salem Gym. Guilford defeated the Spirits 25-18, 25-17, 25-16. Keri Nolan (Calabash, NC) and Cassie Durham (Dobson, NC) led the Spirits with six kills each. Salem falls to 3-8 with the loss.

    The Salem College volleyball team lost two very close home matches in a tri-match yesterday. Salem lost in five sets against Hollins University (25-20, 25-22, 11-25, 19-25, 10-15). The Spirits returned to drop a match against Virginia Intermont College in four sets (25-23, 23-25, 21-25, 22-25). Keri Nolan (Calabash, NC) had a very strong day for the Spirits with 28 total kills. Salem falls to 3-7 on the season.

    The Salem College volleyball team split two games this week on the road. The Spirits defeated Piedmont Baptist College on Tuesday in four games (25-22, 23-25, 25-10, 25-15). The Spirits lost in Raleigh to the Peace Pacers in four games last night (17-25, 25-21, 25-8, 25-19). The Spirits are now 3-5 on the season in non-conference play.
  • Volleyball beats Sweet Briar in first home match

    The Salem College volleyball team won their first home match easily against visiting Sweet Briar College. The Spirits won the non-conference match in three sets (25-8, 25-14, 25-19). Randi Roppolo (Weeki Wachee, FL) led the Spirits with 12 kills, 2 service aces, and 3 digs. Salem improves to 2-4 overall with the victory.

    The Salem College volleyball team dropped their first match of the season on the road at Greensboro College. Greensboro swept the Spirits in three sets (11-25, 13-25, 18-25). Salem falls to 0-1 on the season, and Greensboro improves to 1-0.

    The Salem College volleyball program is excited to announce that Cassie Durham committed to attend Salem this season. Durham played middle hitter for Jan Marion-Kiser at Surry Community College and for Tim Shelton at Surry Central High School in North Carolina.
