Volleyball beats Sweet Briar in first home match

Winston-Salem, NC- The Salem College volleyball team won their first home match easily against visiting Sweet Briar College. The Spirits won the non-conference match in three sets (25-8, 25-14, 25-19). Randi Roppolo (Weeki Wachee, FL) led the Spirits with 12 kills, 2 service aces, and 3 digs. Salem improves to 2-4 overall with the victory.

Salem jumped out early in the first set to a strong lead and never looked back. Christine Tillman (King, NC) had a strong night with 9 kills, 2 service aces, and 2 blocks. Khadija Layne (Dorchester, MA) had 11 digs and 3 kills.

Three first-year players also had strong matches in their first match in the Salem Gym. Aubrey Bradshaw (Valdese, NC) led the Spirits with 15 digs, and she added 5 kills and 2 service aces. Chelsea Jones (Glade Valley, NC) and LaSashia Connelly (Morganton, NC) each spent time as setter for Salem. Jones finished with 21 assists, and Connelly added 6 assists.

Salem returns to action on Tuesday, September 14th when they travel to Piedmont Baptist College.
