Volleyball finishes fourth in GSAC

Maryville, TN and Bristol, VA-The Salem College volleyball team lost four matches this weekend played at both Maryville and Virginia Intermont. Salem fell to Maryville (11-25, 22-25, 8-25) in a Great South conference match. The other three loses were non-conference matches against Covenant, Virginia Intermont, and Southern Virginia. Salem finishes their conference play in fourth place, and they will play LaGrange in the conference quarterfinals. The Spirits overall record falls to 8-18. 

Christine Tillman (King, NC) led the Spirits against Maryville with 7 kills, 9 digs, and 1 block. Brittany Miller (Hays, NC) added 9 digs for Salem in the match. Sara Maher (Longmont, CO) had 7 set assists and Chelsea Jones (Glade Valley, NC) added 5 assists. Randi Roppolo (Weeki Wachee, FL) led Salem with 2 service aces in the match.

Salem fell to Covenant in 3 sets (18-25, 13-25, 13-25). Tillman added 6 kills, 8 digs, and 2 blocks against Covenant. Aubrey Bradshaw (Valdese, NC) had 4 kills and 8 digs, and Keri Nolan (Calabash, NC) added 6 kills. Maher had 8 set assists and LaSashia Connelly (Morganton, NC) added 5 assists.

Salem lost to Virginia Intermont in a five-set match (23-25, 25-22, 25-20, 22-25, 11-15). They lost to Southern Virginia in three sets.

The Spirits return to action on October 30th when they travel to Hollins University.
