Volleyball prepares for Great South Tournament in Georgia

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College volleyball team is preparing for a trip to the Great South Athletic Conference Tournament this weekend hosted by Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA. The quarterfinals and semifinals will take place on November 5th, and the championship is on the 6th. Salem will play LaGrange College in the quarterfinals. The Spirits are the four seed and LaGrange is the five seed. Salem defeated LaGrange 3-2 in five sets when the two teams met at Piedmont on October 16th.

If Salem defeats LaGrange, they will play Huntingdon College in the semifinals. Huntingdon is the number one seed, and they have a first round bye. Huntingdon defeated Salem 3-1 at Georgia Wesleyan earlier this season on October 2nd.

Salem has a high ranking in the conference in several team and individual categories. The Spirits are ranked 4th in blocks in the GSAC, and they are 5th in hitting percentage, assists, kills, and digs. Christine Tillman (King, NC) is ranked 4th in the conference in hitting percentage (.270), and she is ranked 6th in kills (2.72 per set). Sara Maher (Longmont, CO) is ranked 2nd in the GSAC in assists (6.82 per set), and Chelsea Jones (Glade Valley, NC) is ranked 8th in service aces (0.4 per set).

The Spirits have one regular season match left tonight when they travel to Guilford College.
