Fall Sports Preview: Week 2

Sport: Cross Country
Last Week: The team finished in second at the St. Andrew's Invitational. Natali Olveda (Salinas, CA) won the entire 5K meet, and Stephanie Verdi (High Point, NC) finished in third.
This Week: Catawba Invitational 5K in Salisbury, NC on Friday the 6th
Opponents: Chowan, Livingstone, Winston-Salem State, Catawba
Last Year at Meet: The Salem XC team finished in 5th at the 2012 Catawba Invitational. Catawba won the meet and WSSU finished in second. The meet is comprised of all Division II teams except for Salem.

Sport: Soccer
Last Week: Salem defeated North Carolina Wesleyan 3-0 on the road in each team's first game. Stephanie Hubbard (Sanford, NC), Sawyer Ferguson (Billings, MT), and MacKenzie Schmidt (Columbus, OH) all scored goals.
This Week: vs. Guilford on Saturday at 3:30 at Meredith

This Week's Opponents: Guilford is 0-2 with losses on a neutral field against Covenant (1-0) and Piedmont (5-0). Meredith is 0-1-1, with a 2-0 loss to Christopher Newport and a 0-0 tie at Virginia Wesleyan. Virginia Wesleyan was ranked 25th in the nation when they hosted Meredith.

Sport: Volleyball
Last Week: Volleyball went 1-3 at the Eastern Mennonite Invitational in their first matches of the season. The Spirits easily handled Mary Baldwin 3-0, with losses against Goucher, Howard Payne, and Eastern Mennonite. Chelsea Jones (Glade Valley, NC) was named to the All-EMU Tournament Team.

This Week's Opponent: Greensboro was 1-3 last week with a 3-0 in against Guilford, and losses to Averett, Hollins, and Roanoke.
