Ferguson and Nixon honored as GSAC Soccer and Volleyball Players of the Week

The GSAC has announced the fall sports week seven Players of the Week and student-athletes from Salem swept the awards following voting by the league sports information directors.

 

GSAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week - Sawyer Ferguson of Salem

 

In her first full week back from injury, Sawyer Ferguson, a junior from Billings, Montana, scored five goals to help Salem to a 2-0 week. In a 7-1 win on a neutral field against Judson, Ferguson scored four goals in 45 minutes of action. In a Great South away match against Wesleyan, she scored the game winning goal in a 4-0 win. Ferguson helped the Spirits to a 11-3-2 overall record, and to a 4-0 record against GSAC competition.

 

GSAC Volleyball Player of the Week - Roslyn Nixon of Salem

 

Junior opposite hitter Roslyn Nixon continued her hot play last week for Salem. In Salem’s victory against Toccoa Falls, she had an astounding 15 kills with only 2 errors resulting in a .541 hitting percentage.  She carried her streak through the weekend in a tough Tri-match against Washington & Lee and Bridgewater College.  Against Bridgewater, she had 13 kills to lead both teams. Her week ended with a total of 31 kills and a .424 hitting percentage.

 

There were no nominees for GSAC Cross Country Runner of the Week.

 

The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released eachWednesday morning.
