September 10, 2013

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College volleyball team played three tight games with North Carolina Wesleyan in a 3-0 loss. The Battling Bishops defeated Salem 21-25, 22-25, and 22-25. Chelsea Jones (Glade Valley, NC) led the Spirits with 25 set assists and 7 digs. Salem falls to 1-5 on the season.

"We played well at times tonight but not well enough to win,” said Head Coach Dana Wall. “We have scheduled a very tough early-season; it will make us a better team as the season goes on. This upcoming week will be challenging but we will grow because of it."

All three games, the Spirits were within one point at 22-21, before Wesleyan held them off. Roslyn Nixon (Wilson, NC) and Michelle Morgan (Chattanooga, TN) each had 9 kills to lead Salem. Taylor Rhodes (Jamestown, NC) had a strong night with 5 service aces and 12 digs, and Zy Henderson (Spartanburg, SC) led the team with 17 digs.

The Spirits play at home again on Thursday night when they host Meredith in non-conference play at 7:00.
