Volleyball loses two tight matches against Piedmont and Greensboro

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College volleyball team hosted a tri-match with Piedmont and Greensboro today. After falling 0-3 (20-25, 23-25, 17-25) to Piedmont, the Spirits battled in an extremely close match with Greensboro. The Spirits led 2-1, but the Pride pulled out the last two sets to win 2-3 (25-23, 21-25, 25-16, 22-25, 16-18). Salem falls to 1-8.

In the Piedmont match, Michelle Morgan (Chattanooga, TN) led the team with 10 kills and Oliva Newbern (Barco, NC) added 8. Roslyn Nixon (Wilson, NC) had a strong match with 9 kills and 2 service aces. Chelsea Jones (Glade Valley, NC) continued her hot play with 29 set assists and 10 digs. Zy Henderson (Spartanburg, NC) led the team with 14 digs, and Taylor Rhodes (Jamestown, NC) added 2 aces.

In the back and forth battle with Greensboro, Morgan and Newbern each had 13 kills and Nixon had 11. Jones had 41 set assists, and Henderson had a staggering 30 digs. Rhodes and Jones each had 2 service aces, and Newbern had 3.

The Spirits return to action on Wednesday when they host Guilford at 7:00.
