The GSAC has announced the fall sports week three Players of the Week and, following voting by the league’s sports information directors, student-athletes from Mills College, Salem College and Wesleyan College earned the awards.
Junior Libero Zy Henderson launched herself into the Top 10 Nationally among Division-lll volleyball athletes last week. he moves into the number 10 spot in Digs per Sets, with 181 digs and averaging 6.03 per set. She carried on her incredible defensive this past week. She averaged 5.25 digs per set in 3 matches against tough opponents including a remarkable 30 digs against Greensboro College.
GSAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week – Taylor Poole of Wesleyan
Taylor Poole (pictured at right) continued her outstanding play this week, helping lead Wesleyan College to a 2-0 mark with wins over Judson College and Oakwood College. The freshman from Warner Robins, Ga. assisted the first goal of a 2-1 overtime win over Judson before recording another hat trick on the road at Oakwood College. Poole now leads the team in goals and points, having scored 9 goals on 20 shots on goal while tallying 20 points thus far this year. This is her second consecutive women’s soccer Player of the Week nod.
GSAC Cross Country Runner of the Week – Lena Tahir of Mills
In her first race of the season, Lena Tahir was her team's top finisher in the Mills Cross Country Invitational this past weekend. The Mills Invitational involves a hilly, 6k course and featured a Division I team and two NAIA teams. With a time of 33:05:00, Tahir was not only the first Mills runner, but was the top finisher among non-scholarship teams. Tahir finished within a minute of two Division I runners, missing out on placing in the top ten by 30 seconds.
The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
