Moulton wins USA South Volleyball Rookie of the Week

Volleyball Rookie of the Week
Taylor Moulton, Salem - The freshman outside hitter from Walnut Cove, North Carolina averaged 3.57 kills and 3.43 digs as the Spirits posted a 1-1 record last week versus USA South competition. In a 3-1 loss to Maryville, Moulton posted a double-double with 13 kills and 13 digs with one assist. In a 3-0 victory over Huntingdon, Moulton notched a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs to go along with three blocks. Volleyball Player of the Week
Hannah Shields, Averett - The junior middle hitter from Keeling, Virginia averaged 4.40 kills and 2.60 digs per set as the Cougars posted a 3-0 record last week versus USA South competition and clinched the Conference's East Division Championship. In a 3-0 win over Methodist, Shields posted 15 kills, eight digs, five service aces, three assists and one block. In a 3-0 victory over Greensboro, Shields tallied 16 kills, nine digs and one service ace. Finally, in a 3-1 win over Meredith, Shields contributed 13 kills, nine digs, one service ace and one block. Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Christina Huber, N.C. Wesleyan - The senior defensive specialist from Virginia Beach, Virginia did all she could in an 0-2 week for the Bishops versus USA South competition as she averaged 8.57 digs per set. In a 3-0 loss to Meredith, Huber totaled 20 digs and two assists. In a 3-1 loss to Greensboro, Huber notched 40 digs, two assists and one service ace. Football Offensive Player of the Week
Elijah Chenier, Maryville - The sophomore running back from Baytown, Texas ran for a career-best 233 yards with two touchdowns in a 30-19 victory over USA South rival LaGrange. Chenier's single-game performance ranks second in program history. Chenier carried the ball 17 times for an average of 13.7 yards per rush. He also caught two passes for 25 yards. Also Nominated: Brian Mann, Ferrum; Sean Bowman, Averett.

Football Offensive Rookie of the Week
Brian Mann, Ferrum - The freshman running back from Pearisburg, Virginia set a new single-game program record by accumulating 344 all-purpose yards in a 35-30 win over USA South foe Methodist. Mann carried the ball 31 times for 205 rushing yards and returned three kickoffs for a total of 139 yards. He scored three touchdowns including a 37-yard effort which put the Panthers in the lead for good in the fourth quarter. Also Nominated: Deandre Gillis, N.C. Wesleyan; Gianni Montgomery, Maryville.

Football Defensive Player of the Week 
Jamal Forney, Averett - The Lexington, North Carolina senior linebacker collected seven total tackles and one pass break-up in a 38-34 victory over USA South foe N.C. Wesleyan. Forney recorded three solo tackles and four assisted takedowns. Also Nominated: Pierre Chadwick, Maryville.

Football Defensive Rookie of the Week
Ronnie Beatty, Averett - The Wilmington, North Carolina freshman defensive back totaled two solo tackles, one pass break-up and one interception in a 38-34 victory over USA South rival N.C. Wesleyan. Beatty's interception came in the first quarter, was returned 26 yards and led to a Cougar touchdown which made the score 17-0. Also Nominated: Taylor Brown, Ferrum; Trey Melton, Maryville.

Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Malik Adams, N.C. Wesleyan - The Selma, North Carolina senior returner totaled 121 return yards including an 80-yard punt return for a touchdown in a 38-34 loss to USA South foe Averett. Adams averaged 30.3 yards per return while also catching two passes for 33 yards. Also Nominated: Tyler Morgan, Ferrum; Ethan Williams, Maryville; Cole Westberry, Averett.
