Volleyball sweeps day at Roanoke

Salem, VA-The Salem College volleyball team took both matches at the Maroon Classic hosted by Roanoke College today. The Spirits came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Piedmont and they cruised to a 3-0 victory over Hollins. The Spirits are off to a 4-2 start.

Salem battled back after losing two sets to defeat the Lions of Piedmont 3-2 (25-27, 22-25, 25-18, 26-24, 15-11). Kylie Taffer had a monster game for the Spirits with 15 kills, while Kathryn O'Connell and Taylor Moulton each had 7. Hannah Delcamp had 20 set assists and Lauren Holman had 16.Moulton had 22 digs and reigning USA South Defender of the Week had 18. O'Connell and Bernisha Master each had 6 block assists, while Delcamp had 3 service aces.

The match against Hollins was much smoother sailing for the Spirits as they cruised to a 3-0 win (25-23, 25-12, 25-21). O'Connell had 9 kills and Moulton had 8. Holman led the team with 4 service aces, while Delcamp had 20 set assists and Holman had 17. Hawks led the team with 10 digs.

Salem returns to action tomorrow against Bridgewater and the hosts of Roanoke.
