Volleyball splits day to improve to 5-3

Salem, VA-The Salem College volleyball team played two tight five-set matches today at the Roanoke Maroon Classic. The Spirits fell in a back and forth affair to the Eagles of Bridgewater by a score of 3-2 (18-25, 25-23, 25-22, 20-25, 5-15). They came back in the afternoon to defeat the hosts of Roanoke College 3-2 (25-19, 19-25, 23-25, 25-18, 15-13). The Spirits are now 5-3 overall.

Bernisha Master broke the career block record at Salem. She now holds the record for most solo blocks in school history. She had 7 blocks against Roanoke. Kathryn O'Connell was selected to the All-Maroon Classic team for her play in the four matches.

Against Bridgewater, Kylie Taffer had 11 kills, while Madelyn Chappell had 10 and Kathryn O'Connell had 9. Hannah Delcamp had 21 set assists, and Lauren Holman had 17. Maggie Hawks led the team with 39 digs.

In the Roanoke match, Taylor Moulton stepped up her game with 16 kills. Delcamp had an impressive 24 set assists and Hawks had 30 digs.

The Spirits will hit the road for one more game on Tuesday at John Wesley, before they host their home opener against Brevard on Wednesday.
