Volleyball Splits Final Day at Route 42 Classic

HARRISBURG, Va. - The Salem College volleyball team concluded play at the Route 42 Classic where they split the contest. Salem was able to beat Bryn Mawr in three and then battled to a five set loss to Bridgewater.

The opening set was all Salem as they went up early and never gave up the lead eventually winning 25-9.

In set two, Bryn Mawr stayed even with the Spirits up to 8-8. From that point, Salem sped ahead only allowing ten more points as Salem won 25-18.

The final set against the Owls, Salem jumped out to an insurmountable lead at 10-1. The Spirits were able to continue the domination winning 25-13.

Madelyn Chappell led the match with 15 kills and Hannah Delcamp distributed 18 assists. 

vs. Bridgewater

 

The Spirits battled early against Bridgewater, but the Eagles held a 10-7 lead early in the set. With Delcamp serving, Salem closed the gap and took the lead 12-10. Through the rest of the set, Bridgwater was unable to gain the lead as Salem took the first set 25-21.

Salem would take an early lead in the second set going up 9-3 over the Eagles. Bridgewater found a momentum swing and tie the set 10-10. From that point, the teams exchanged points and the lead through an 18-18 tie. Three more points for Salem would give them the edge as they took set two 25-21.

Another early battle would start the third set as the teams would tie at 12-12. Bridgwater took charge and did not let Salem take the lead again finishing off at 25-17.

The momentum gained in the third set would carry the Eagles through the last two sets 25-23 and 15-4.

Taylor Moulton led the kills in the second match with 11 and Delcamp led the assist column again with 25.

Salem Standouts

Maggie Hawks was credited with 91 digs through the tournament claimed the All-Tournament Team for the Route 42 Classic.

Delcamp collected 46 assists in the second day of the tournament.
