Hawks Named Defensive Player of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Salem volleyball player Maggie Hawks was named USA South Defensive Player of the Week after her performance at the Route 42 Classic.

Hawks led the way defensively for the Spirits as they went 2-2 in their first weekend of play. Her all-tournament performance was highlighted by 91 digs in the four matches averaging 5.69 digs per set. 

The sophomore is no stranger to USA South honors as she was named Rookie of the Year last season. 


The USA South Athletic Conference announces its weekly honor roll each Monday and at least half of the teams in a sport must have competed within the previous week for honors to be awarded.

Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Maggie Hawks, Salem - The sophomore libero from Mt. Airy, North Carolina averaged 5.69 digs per set as the Spirits posted a 2-2 record last week. In a 3-1 win over Lynchburg, Hawks totaled 21 digs, two kills, two assists and one service ace. In a 3-1 loss to Eastern Mennonite, Hawks posted 39 digs, six assists and one kill. In a 3-0 win over Bryn Mawr, Hawks contributed eight digs and three assists. Finally, in a 3-2 loss to Bridgewater, Hawks totaled 23 digs, four assists and two kills.
