Volleyball Puts Four-Match Winning Streak on Line at Averett

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Salem volleyball team puts its four-match winning streak on the line when it heads to Danville, Va., to clash with Averett at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

Salem (7-5, 3-0 USA South) began its longest winning streak of the season on Tuesday, Sept. 17, with a decisive 3-1 triumph over crosstown rival Piedmont International. The Spirits picked up three wins last week, beginning with a four-set win at Methodist, which was followed by a 3-1 win against Mary Baldwin and a 3-0 victory against William Peace on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Led by the combination of Kathryn O'Connell (118 kills) and Taylor Moulton (100 kills) and Hannah Delcamp (372 assists), the Spirits have amassed 481 kills (10.93 kills / set) and have a combined attack percentage of .153 on offense.

The same trio of individuals—O'Connell (132 digs), Moulton (124) and Delcamp (109) account for more than 52 percent of the Spirits digs. Meanwhile, the front row tandem of O'Connell (34 total blocks) and Anna Schneider (27), who leads the way with nine solo blocks, has limited opposing lineups to a .140 attack percentage.

Averett (6-9, 3-0 USA South), which is 1-5 at home this season, enters the match with a three-match winning streak that includes victories against Meredith (3-1), Methodist (3-1) and N.C. Wesleyan (3-2) in succession.

Lauren Montren is one of four Cougars with 100 kills on the season with a team-best 156 kills (2.60 kills / set) to her credit. She is joined on offense by Zamyiah Mangum (143 kills), Sarah Shropshire (126) and Madison Dadez (104).

Mangum (229 digs) and Montren (206) are also making their presence felt on defense, as is Madison Dadez, with 42 blocks (37 assisted blocks).
