Salem Spikers Head to Pfeiffer Tuesday Evening

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Salem volleyball team, winners of six of its last seven matches, including triumphs over N.C. Wesleyan and Greensboro over the weekend, returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at Pfeiffer.

The Spirits (9-6, 5-1 USA South), who are tied alongside Meredith for second in the USA South Conference East Division standings, have claimed league wins over Mary Baldwin, William Peace, N.C. Wesleyan and Greensboro during the last two weeks. Meanwhile, Pfeiffer is 10-6 overall and 1-4 against USA South Conference foes.

Through the first six matches of league action, Salem has posted 363 digs (16.50 digs / set), 260 kills (11.82 kills / set), 45 service aces (2.05 service aces / set) and 38 total blocks (54 assisted blocks). Defensively, the Spirits have limited opponents to a .134 attack percentage due in large part to 148 attack errors. Individually, Kathryn O'Connell leads the way in three major categories, including kills (66), digs (65) and total blocks (22) against USA South opposition. Teammate Hannah Delcamp, with 206 assists to her credit in league play, is also tops among the Salem lineup.

O'Connell also leads the Salem lineup in the overall statistics on the season with 147 kills (2.67 kills / set), 167 digs (3.04 digs / set) and 48 total blocks (36 assisted blocks). Delcamp has quarterbacked the Spirits offense to 606 total kills with her team-best 470 assists. The service game of Valeria Rosa Lopez (30 service aces) and Corrin Shores (18) has also been key in Salem's success in 2019.

Pfeiffer has dropped four of its last five matches, including a pair of three-set losses to William Peace and Averett over the weekend. The lone victory in USA South play for the Falcons came against Methodist on Oct. 1, by virtue of a 3-0 sweep.

Anna Clouse (189 kills), Reagan Wyatt (154 kills) and Angelina Fardella (442 assists) top the Falcons lineup offensively. Meanwhile the defense is anchored by Emma Gray Beacham (209 digs) and Wyatt, who has 28 total blocks (21 assisted blocks).
