Cross-Country Team Receives Three Post-Season Awards

Winston-Salem, NC-The 2007 Salem College Cross-Country Team claimed three Association of Division III Independents Women’s Cross-Country post-season awards as the coaches and sports information directors of 21 colleges across the nation voted.

Rachel Fichthorn (Jr, Nokesville, VA) received Co-Runner of the Year Award and was placed on the All-Association First Team. Fichthorn won the Association Championship as an individual helping Salem College win its first AD3I Cross-Country Championship. Fichthorn also won the North Carolina NCAA Division Cross-Country Championship as an individual and led Salem College to the North Carolina title.

Daphne Nichols (Jr, Machiasport, ME) was named to the All-Association Second Team. Nichols finished 4th overall in the Association Championship in Boston and 2nd in the North Carolina NCAA Division III Championship.

Coach J.P. Widner was named Association of Division III Independents Women’s Cross-Country Coach-of-the-Year. Widner has coached at Salem College for the past three seasons.
