Salem Harriers Place Second in Atlanta

Salem Harriers Place Second in Atlanta

Atlanta, GA- The Salem College Cross-Country Team opened up their 2008 season with an impressive showing at the "Smarter Women Sweat Invitational" hosted by Agnes Scott College on Saturday morning. Perhaps running on the toughest and steepest course they will see all season, the Spirits responded well by placing their top four harriers in the first 14 finishers. As a team, Salem won the second place trophy in the all-women's college eight-team field. Converse, a NCAA Division II college, won the overall meet.

Salem College’s Rachel Fichthorn ( SR, Nokesville, VA) placed second, finishing just nine seconds behind Converse College’s Carrie Powell. Kirsten Roberts (FY, Abingdon, VA) placed ninth overall. Julie Piernikowski (SO, Potomac, Md) placed 12th while Lauren Meek (JR, Draper, VA) finished in 14th place. Kelsey Rector (SO, State Road, NC) placed 41st to round out Salem College’s scoring five. Catherine Mixon (FY, Simpsonville, SC) and Jessi Martinez (FY, Houston, TX) placed 48th and 50th respectively.

Salem College will return to action next Saturday as they travel to Lexington, VA to run in the General's Invitational hosted by Washington & Lee University.
