Cross Country competes well at Furman Invitational

Furman, SC-The Salem College cross country team finished in 12th place out of 16 teams at the Furman Invitational. The team defeated fellow GSAC competitor, Piedmont College, in the meet. Julie Piernikowski (Potomac, MD) once again was the top runner for the Spirits on the 5k course in a time of 23:01 (65th overall). The Spirits top five runners averaged a time of 24:02 on the course.

Lauren Meek (Draper, VA) finished just three seconds behind Piernikowski and was 70th overall. Stephanie Mendez (Atlanta, GA) and Julie Bigsby (Salisbury, NC) finished back to back in 82nd and 83rd place. Mendez ran a time of 24:07 and Bigsby finished in 24:10. Emily Abel (Otto, NC) was the fifth runner for the Spirits in a time of 25:48 (94th overall).

Salem returns to action next week at the Old North State Invitational in Greensboro at 9:00 am.
