Cross Country finishes fourth in 2009 Salem Invitational

Winston-Salem, NC- The Salem College cross country team finished fourth out of twelve teams in the 2009 Salem X-C Invitational. The meet consisted of a men's and women's college race, and also two high school races. Salem was led by Julie Piernikowski (Potomac, MD) who finished the 5k course 16th overall in a time of 23:29. The women's college race consisted of runners from all three NCAA divisions and also NAIA schools. 

Lauren Meek (Draper, VA) finished second for the Spirits in a time of 23:39, and she was 19th overall. Stephanie Mendez (Atlanta, GA) finished 25th in a time of 24:41. Julie Bigsby (Salisbury, NC) and Emily Abel (Otto, NC) rounded out the top five for the Spirits. Bigsby finished 28th in a time of 25:38, and Abel was 30th in a time of 25:45.

Converse College was the winner of the women's college race. Southern Wesleyan finished in second, and Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) was third. Tyrah Winfrey (WSSU) was the overall individual winner in a time of 21:57.

Salem returns to action on September 19th when they head to Greensboro for the Guilford College XC Carnival.
