Cross Country finishes in second at GSAC Championships

LaGrange, GA-The Salem College cross country team finished in second out of six teams at the Great South Athletic Conference (GSAC) Championships today. All ten of Salem's runners ran the six kilometer (6K) course in their fastest time. Salem came in second to Huntingdon College by 17 points. Julie Piernikowski (Potomac, MD) finished the race in third overall with a personal record (24:32.15). 

Stephanie Mendez (Atlanta, GA) finished in eighth place overall in a personal record (25:11.41), and was the third overall first-year runner in the race. Julie Bigsby (Salisbury, NC) ran her fastest ever 6K and finished in eleventh place (25:59.10). Lauren Meek (Draper, VA) finished in fourth for the Spirits and 13th overall (26:05.33). Samantha Styers (Walnut Cove, NC) wrapped up the scorers for Salem and came in twentieth place (28:07.16). 

The Spirits will return to action on November 14th at the NCAA South Regionals in Greensboro.
