Williams Hired as New Cross Country and Track & Field Coach

Winston-Salem, NC- Director of Athletics Melissa Barrett announced the appointment of Jamie Williams as the head coach of the Salem College Cross Country and Track & Field teams.

Williams comes to a cross country program that finished in third at the 2010 Great South Athletic Conference Championships held at Maryville College. He will also look to continue the growth of the track & field program at Salem as it will enter its second year of existence.

He began his coaching career at his alma mater, Emory and Henry College in Virginia (class of 1993), as their head men’s cross country coach. While in school at Emory and Henry, he spent one year on the track team. Williams also spent time as both the assistant women’s basketball and volleyball coach between 1999 and 2002. He spent one year as an admissions counselor in charge of the Southwest Virginia territory at Emory and Henry.

Williams has also spent time as a track coach at three different high schools over the past nine years. He coached for four years as the assistant track coach at Northwood High School (Saltville, VA). He also worked a year as head coach at South Stanly High School (Norwood, NC), and one year as an assistant coach at Eustis High School (Eustis, VA). While at South Stanly, Williams directed the track and field program to a third place finish in the North Carolina 1A State Meet.

He has most recently worked as the associate director of summer conferences at Stetson University for three years. Williams also started an online coffee business, Guava Joe’s Coffee Company, where he manages all aspects of the business.

Williams and his wife Lois, who is the Vice President of Enrollment at Catawba College, currently reside in Salisbury, NC. He will begin his head coaching duties at Salem immediately to prepare for the 2011-2012 seasons.
