October 23, 2012

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College cross country team is set to head to

charlotteinvitational
Georgia for the Great South Championships this weekend. The race will be hosted by Spelman College at the Boundary Water Parks on October 27th at 9:00 a.m. The Spirits will compete against Spelman College, Wesleyan College, and Huntingdon College for the title.

Natali Olveda (Salinas, CA) has been the top runner all season for the Spirits on both 5k and 6k courses. Cristi Magracia (Lemon Grove, CA), a returning all-conference performer, has consistently finished 2nd for Salem. The Spirits will also be counting on strong races from Bethany Eaton (State Road, NC), Elizabeth Penley (Newport, NC) and Amber Miller (Mebane, NC).

Covenant College won the Pre-Championship Meet earlier in the season, which Salem did not participate in. The Scots will not be eligible for the team title though. Spelman appears to be the Spirits top competition at the meet. They have 2 strong runners that Olveda and Magracia will try to defeat.
