Cross country continues strong season at Barton

Wilson, NC-The Salem College cross country team finished in fourth at the Barton XC Invitational 5K. The Spirits defeated four teams, including three NCAA DII squads. Natali Olveda (Salinas, CA) was the top Salem runner, and she finished in 6th overall in 20:57.74.

Salem defeated St. Augustine's, Chowan, Shaw, and Methodist. Barton was the overall team winner, followed by Winston-Salem State and Meredith. Angelica Del Real from Barton was the overall winner in 19:31.90.

Stephanie Verdi (High Point, NC) came in just seven seconds behind Olveda to finish in 11th overall. Cristi Magracia (Lemon Grove, CA) was the next Salem runner and 19th overall in 21:44.20. Audrey Wierda (Greenville, MI) and Tali Schroeder (Lexington, VA) finished back to back in 29th and 30th. Wierda ran 22:32.59 and Schroeder ran 22:34.96. Amanda Johnson (Virginia Beach, VA) finished in 43rd and Elizabeth Penley (Newport, NC) finished in 46th place. Angelica Andrews (East Bend, NC) was the final Salem runner across the line in 59th place. 

The Spirits have two weeks off before they run in the Greensboro Invite 5K on September 28th.
