Verdi awarded with GSAC Runner of the Week

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Great South Athletics Conference announced the fall sports Players of the Week for all contests played through September 7 and, following voting by the league sports information directors, Samantha Nadeau of Maine-Presque Isle won Women's Soccer Player of the Week, Shelli Sherman of Agnes Scott captured Volleyball Player of the Week and Salem's Stephanie Verdi claimed Cross Country Runner of the Week.

The last two meets at St. Andrews University and Catawba College, Stephanie Verdi has been the first finisher for the Salem College Spirit's to cross the stripe.  In her first meet at St. Andrews, Verdi finished third overall with a race time of 21:35, being rewarded as a top 5 finisher.  She just missed the mark by two places at Catawba where Stephanie finished 12th out of 73 runners with a consistent time of 21:52.  

 

The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
