Salem sweeps GSAC Awards

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Great South Athletic Conference announced the fall sports Players of the Week for all contests played September 15 - 21 and, following voting by the league sports information directors, Salem's Nataly Mojica captured Women's Soccer Player of the Week, Hillary McPhatter of the Spirits' won Volleyball Player of the Week and Salem's Cristi Macgracia collected Runner of the Week.

 

GSAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week – Nataly Mojica of Salem

Nataly Mojica, a senior from Dallas, Texas, scored three goals and added an assist this weekend to help Salem to a 2-0 weekend. She scored a hat-trick, the first of her career, in a 4-0 victory at West Virginia Tech. One of her goals was directly off of a corner kick. She added an assist in a 3-1 victory at Warren Wilson to help Salem to a 6-2 overall record.

 

GSAC Volleyball Player of the Week – Hillary McPhatter of Salem

Hillary McPhatter played a pivotal role in Salem College's win over Conference Rival Agnes Scott this weekend.Saturday's win for the Spirits put them to 2-0 in Conference play. After winning the first set, Salem's Middle turned an ankle and went out of the match. McPhatter turned up the volume delivering 22 kills and 13 digs in her double-double, which also included 3 service aces and a block.  McPhatter delivered the final blow to decide the 3rd set in a 31-29 battle and contributed five of her 22 kills in the final (5th) set, including the match winner to seal it for the Spirits, 15-13.  

 

GSAC Cross Country Runner of the Week – Cristi Macgracia of Salem

Cristi Macgracia has shown great stride in her progress in this season.  Cristi started the season with a 25:37 5k time and has taken over 3 minutes off of her time since our first invitational. Cristi was the first Salem College runner to cross the line at the Barton College invitational with a time of 22:46 and also ran her best time yet this season on Friday at the Adidas Cross Country Challenge as the second runner for Salem College to cross the line with a 22:135k finish.  

 

 

The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
