Bardell propels Spirits to 8th at USA South Championships

(TALLULAH FALLS, GA) - The 2016 USA South Women's Cross Country Championship took place on Saturday, October 29 st the Tallulah Falls School Farm Course in Tallulah Falls, Georgia. Piedmont College captured the championship for the first time in program history. The Lions topped second place Meredith College by 43 points. Individually, Piedmont's Reese Bowles won the meet as she finished the 6,000 meter course first in a time of 23:42.

Salem finished in 8th in the 13 team meet. Janine Bardell was the top finisher for the Spirits and earned USA South Honorable Mention All-Conference with her 23rd overall finish in 27:10. Jessica Bailey was the second Spirit across the line in 29:42, which was 43rd overall. Meghan Menard came in 45th in 30:22. Hannah Ross finished in 53rd and Taylor Mabe finished in 56th to wrap up the top five for Salem.

Additionally, the first seven finishers at the meet were named First Team All-Conference. The next seven runners earned Second Team All-Conference accolades while the following nine runners collected Honorable Mention All-Conference honors. Also, the Conference's Runner of the Year, Rookie Runner of the Year and Coach of the Year were announced. The full all-conference team can be found below.
