2016 Cross Country Season Recap

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College cross country concluded their 2016 season with an 8th place finish in the USA South Championship Meet at Piedmont College in Georgia. The finish was two spots above where the Spirits were picked in the USA South pre-season poll prior to the season. Janine Bardell became the first Salem runner to earn USA South All-Conference honors.

Head Coach Britni Mohney said, "It was exciting for the Salem Cross Country Program to compete in it's first ever conference meet. With the hard work our team members put forth, we are pleased with our finish of the 2016 season."

The Spirits graduate two seniors, Meghan Menard and Giseline Martinez Ponce. Menard was selected to the USA South All-Sportsmanship team and we a consistent top two or three finisher for Salem.

Bardell had the top 5K course finish for Salem this season at the 33rd Annual Greensboro XC Invitational in September with a time of 22:40.51. She also had the top finish for Salem on a 6K course with her time of 27:10 at Piedmont in the USA South Championships, which was good enough for 23rd overall place in the meet. "As we have many first year runners returning, we are excited for the future of our cross country program here at Salem College and plan to continue to build and excel in the years to come," said Coach Mohney.
