Cross Country Finishes in 10th at Catawba

Salisbury, NC-The Salem College cross country team finished in 10th place out of 15 teams at the Catawba 5K Invitational in their season opening meet. The Spirits were the second overall NCAA DIII team behind Pfeiffer and in front of N.C. Wesleyan and Peace, who are all in the USA South.

Janine Bardell, a 2016 all-conference honoree was the top runner for Salem and 34th overall with a time of 23:12 on the rainy course. The next Spirit was Jessica Bailey, who was 37th just fourteen seconds behind Bardell. Running in her first collegiate meet, Una Stroszeck finished in third for Salem and 51st overall (24:54). Lilly Roenfanz and Arlene Perez rounded out the top five for Salem in 74th and 75th place.

The Spirits return to action on September 15th in Greensboro.
