Maryville, TN - A total of 17 USA South Athletic Conference teams with a field of 114 total runners filled the course for the conference championship race. Junior Jessica Bailey finished the season as the first Salem Spirit to cross the line in all races; leading the Spirits to a 10th place finish to end their season.
Berea College danced away with the Championship title with a score of 26. Covenant College (47) and Piedmont College (97) finished out the top three team finishes; as Methodist finished in a close scoring fourth (103 points).
Bailey covered the 6,000-meter in a time of 27:24.8 placing her 34th overall. She was accompanied by a strong following with a second place spirit finish by sophomore Una Stroszeck at 31:09.8. A quick duo finish by first year runners Lupita Uribe (74th) and RoyseAnn Day(75th) rounded out the third and fourth place scoring runners for Salem. Finishing the scoring Salem five was sophomore Karen Romero-Mendieta with a time of 33:35.1.
As the Spirits close out their cross country season, Coach Mohney is looking forward to her young and ambitious team to continue their efforts in the off seasons. With the top five scoring runners to return next season; the Spirits are gearing to break new barriers next season.
