Bailey Top Finisher for Salem at USA South Cross Country Championships

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – Jessica Bailey, the lone senior on the Salem cross country team in 2019, saw her career come to a close on Saturday morning at the USA South Cross Country Championships when she finished 33rd in the event held at N.C. Wesleyan in Rocky Mount, N.C.

Bailey, who enjoyed a trio of Top-10 finishes this season, crossed the line in a time of 26:43.87 on Saturday, marking the best time by a Spirit runner. She was just over three minutes off the pace established by Berea's Jamie Welch, who took home top honors with a time of 23:02.32.

Lupita Uribe posted the second-best time (30:38.78) by a Salem runner, finishing 78th in the process. Maria Ferrer trotted across the line just over two minutes later (33:32.64) to close in 91st for the Spirits.

Sophomore RoyseAnn Day ended the event in 95th, recording a time of 35:03.20. She finished just ahead of teammate Isabella Verdicchio, who closed the meet in 38:56.65 and finished 107th in the process.
