Softball Sweeps Methodist to Win USA South Regular Season Title

Fayetteville, NC-The Salem College softball team swept Methodist to win their second straight USA South regular season title. Last year the Spirits won the USA South West Division and this year the team won the East Division. Salem finished the regular season with a 12-4 conference record and 21-15 overall record, while Methodist's season concludes with a 8-30 and 6-10 record.

The Spirits crushed Methodist 13-0 in the first game of the day. Kayla Ogle threw the 5-inning shutout. She only allowed 3 hits to improve her record to 6-5. Jennifer Vitarelli and Brittany Morton both went 3 for 3 for the Spirits. Amanda Dacunto led the team with 3 runs batted in, while Morton and Miranda Barker each scored 4 runs.

In game 2, Barker picked up the win as she allowed 4 runs in 7 innings to improve to 10-4. Dacunto led the team as she went 3 for 3. Madison Burch had a team-high 3 runs batted in.

Salem will host William Peace in the first round of the USA South Tournament on Saturday at 1 and 3. The Spirits swept the Pacers earlier this month at home.
