LaGrange, GA-The Salem College softball team cruised to a 5-1 victory over Averett to advance in the USA South Tournament. The Spirits will play Maryville College tomorrow at 12:00. Salem is now 24-15 overall.
The six teams competing advanced to LaGrange by winning best-of-three series the weekend before on campus sites. All six teams remain alive in the tournament, however, only East top-seed Salem and West top-seed Maryville are undefeated.
Miranda Barker picked up the win on the mound for Salem. She allowed just 1 run over 7 innings for the Spirits. Barker, Addison York, and Jennifer Vitarelli all had 2 hits for Salem in the victory.
SCHEDULE CHANGE: Due to the possibility of poor weather conditions on Sunday, Game 9 featuring the Game 7 Loser vs. the Game 8 Winner, originally scheduled for Sunday will now be played on Saturday at 4:00pm. Another change may be made to the remaining regularly scheduled games on Sunday so please continue to follow the Conference website for further updates.
The tournament will continue in LaGrange through Sunday, April 15 as a part of the USA South Spring Sports Festival.
