Salem Splits Series with Meredith

Salem Splits Series with Meredith

  • Salem bats were hard at work in game one.
  • Sophomore Miranda Barker pitched well facing 23 batters and only allowing 4 hits in game one.
  • Game 2 Salem fought to stay ahead of Meredith but couldn't find the consistency they needed in the circle.
  • Salem did their job getting on and around the bases but Meredith came up on top in the last two innings.

RALEIGH, NC — The Salem College softball team claimed a solid victory against Meredith's Avenging Angels 6-1, but Merideth came back in game two with an 8-5 win in Sunday's USA South doubleheader.

The Spirits (13-10,4-4) drove in a total of 6 runs in six innings before Meredith (15-6, 9-1) found its only run in the game.

Much of the Spirits defensive display was due to a superb showing by sophomore pitcher Miranda Barker who allowed only four hits against 23 batters.

In game two, the teams traded hits and runs, with both scoring two runs in the first inning.

By the fifth inning, the score was tied 5-5, before Meredith found three runs in the sixth, bringing the score to 5-8.

The Salem Spirits hit the home field at 2 and 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 3 for their next doubleheader against Greensboro.
