ROME, Ga. – Salem hurler Kayla Ogle, who earned a 2-0 record and 0.41 in three appearances and two starts last week for the Spirits, received USA South Pitcher of the Week honors from the league office on Monday, March 9.

Ogle, who made starts in the first games of doubleheaders with Randolph (March 7) and Ferrum (March 8), logged 15 innings, scattered 12 hits, surrendered one run and converted 11 strikeouts. She also took to the mound for a relief appearance against Randolph, tossing two innings and allowing one hit in a 7-2 Salem victory. Ogle's week concluded with a 0.41 ERA for a Spirits unit that moved their winning streak to seven straight.

"Overall, I am extremely proud of my team but Kayla has truly taken the mound with no fear in her appearances so far this season," said Salem head coach Kierston Garner. "She continues to keep batters guessing allowing for her team to back her up with the bats to give us the runs we need to seal the deal."

The junior pitcher from Clover, S.C., began her week by tossing eight innings and scattering six hits in a 3-1 win over Randolph in the first game of the doubleheader. Ogle returned to the mound in the nightcap, logging two innings and limited WildCat hitters to one hit in a 7-2 Salem win.

In Ogle's third appearance and second start, the Salem hurler scattered five hits, including three in the final four innings, to earn a 4-0 shutout over Ferrum on Sunday, March 8. It marked the first shutout since April 20, 2019, when they downed Greensboro 7-0 in the first round of the USA South Tournament.

Ogle's award marks the second honor in as many weeks for the Spirits after Breanna Herman earned USA South Player of the Week on Monday, March 2.

The Spirits continue their homestand on Wednesday, March 11 when they host FDU-Florham for a doubleheader at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. at Blixt Field. For more information on Salem softball check out www.salemspirits.com.
