Basketball loses on road in USA South action

Raleigh, NC-The Salem College basketball team lost their first USA South road game 79-69 at William Peace. The Pacers jumped out to an early lead and were able to hold on for the win. Sabrina Shepherd led the Spirits with 25 points. Salem falls to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the USA South, while Peace improves to 1-3 and 1-0.

The Pacers jumped out to a 15-5 lead early and carried a 23-17 lead after the first quarter. Salem cut into that lead and finished the half down by just 3 points. Peace went on another run to start the second half as they outscored Salem 13-4 in the first 5 minutes of the half. Salem closed the quarter on a 14-7 run. Peace was able to hold onto a lead the entire fourth quarter.

Shenique Pharr and Mikayla Seivers each added 17 points for Salem. Hannah McBride had a team-high 7 assists, while Seivers added 6 assists. McBride led the Spirits with 14 rebounds, while Seivers had 6 steals and McBride added 4 more.

Salem is now off for over 3 weeks, as they won't play again until they travel to Greensboro to take on Guilford on December in non-conference action.
