Seniors Shine In USA South Win

Winston-Salem, NC-On a game honoring Salem basketball seniors, the seniors led the way to a convincing 98-62 USA South East Division win against William Peace. Mikayla Seivers led the way with only the second triple-double in school history, while seniors Hannah McBride and Tarryn Johnson also had strong games. The Spirits improve to 9-12 overall and 7-6 in conference, while William Peace falls to 4-15 and 4-9.

Prior to the game, the Spirits honored Johnson, McBride and Seivers. Sabrina Shepherd, a fifth-year senior, was honored during a senior game last year. Seivers was all over the court and finished with the triple-double of 21 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds. McBride had 13 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds, and a team-high 4 steals. Johnson finished with 8 points and 5 rebounds, while Shepherd dropped 21 points. Dominique Cross finished with 12 points for Salem and Tyler Davenport added 11 points.

The game was never close as Salem got off to their hottest start of the season. Peace started with a 3-0 lead, before Salem went on an 18-0 run and never looked back. They carried a 34-16 lead after the first quarter and extended it to 49-29 at the half. Salem outscored Peace 49-33 in the second half.

The Spirits will stay home tomorrow for another important USA South game as they host Averett at 1:00. This will also be their "Think Pink" game in honor of breast cancer awareness.
