Spirits Unable to Keep Pace against William Peace, fall 64-84

Winston Salem, NC- Playing in their second game of a three-game homestand, Salem hosted conference opponent William Peace Saturday afternoon. Coming off their best offensive effort against Averett earlier in the week, Salem were unable to continue the hot shooting. The Spirits loss the contest 64-84 falling to 0-5 in conference play. 

The Spirits were led by senior Tamara Blanton who scored 21 points for the game, with a 90% free throw shooting percentage going 9-10 from the charity strip.  In a very physical game, both teams went to the free throw line for a combined 75 attempts; with William Peace outshooting the Spirits 71.4% to 60.0%. 

Aaliyah Webb also turned in a solid performance for Salem, contributing 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals. Sophia Church of William Peace led all scorers with 20 points, followed by teammate Mariah Ballen with 18.  Both players shot above 58% from the field.  

Coach Mohney, "The game was a battle at the foul line, and William Peace capitalized on those opportunities shooting 71%.  What we were able to do was hold William Peace standouts Mikayla Ray and Khadijah Daniels under their averages.  We didn't have any turnovers in the second half of the game; so we have positive components to take away.  We really excelled in the second and fourth quarter; so tomorrow we focus on getting all four quarters of basketball together to keep competing."

In a quick turnaround, Salem hosts NC Wesleyan (2-2 USA South) on Sunday at 2:00 pm.
