Spirits Continue Road Swing at Pfeiffer on Wednesday

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Salem basketball team continues its four-game road swing on Wednesday, Jan. 15, when it heads to Meisenheimer, N.C., for a clash with USA South Conference foe Pfeiffer at 5 p.m. in Merner Gym.

The Spirits (0-13, 0-6 USA South) are winless in four road games this season as they look for the first win in the coaching career of first-year head coach Quntashea Lewis. In six USA South contests, Salem is averaging 56.3 points per game (338 points), while hitting 131-of-365 (35.9%) from the field and 26-of-95 (27.4%) from beyond the arc.

Sophomore Sydney Bowen, who has reached double figures in each of her last three games, leapfrogged teammate Alize Brooks to become the top scorer of the Spirits with 153 points. Bowen is hitting 57-of-158 (36.1%) from the floor and 21-of-62 (33.9%) from 3-point range en route to leading the team in scoring. Brooks, with 148 points to her credit, has knocked down 52-of-160 (32.5%) field goals and 14-of-59 (23.7%) from 3-point range.

Meanwhile, the combination of Lauren Privette and Aubrey Slaughter lead the way for Salem in rebounding, as the Spirits have 525 total rebounds in 2019-20. Privette is responsible for 113 total rebounds, including 71 on the defensive glass, while Slaughter has grabbed 103 boards (32 offensive).

Pfeiffer (6-8, 3-3 USA South) has dropped three of its last four contests, including back-to-back losses against Greensboro (82-69) and N.C. Wesleyan (78-63) in succession. The Falcons have three players on the roster with at least 100 points, including A'Mya McClain (184), Kortni Pinion (176) and Brina Bentley (173). That trio has helped Pfeiffer to score 820 points by virtue of hitting 288-of-828 (34.8%) from the field and 69-of-242 (28.5%) from 3-point range.

Pinion has also made her presence felt in the paint for Pfeiffer with a team-best 111 rebounds, including 92 on the defensive glass. Teammates Brina Bentley and Regan Allen, with 75 and 67 rebounds, respectively, have also made their impact in the post.
