  • Salem Soccer Wins National Team Ethics Award

    The Salem College soccer team was one of only 88 teams in both men's and women's soccer for all NCAA divisions to earn the Team Ethics Award presented by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Salem earned the silver level medal for only accumulating 3 yellow cards and 0 red cards during the 2012 season, which they finished 16-3-1.
  • MacKenzie Schmidt earns first Scholar All-Region Award in Salem History

    MacKenzie Schmidt (Columbus, OH) became the 1st student-athlete in Salem College history to earn NCAA Scholar All-South Region Honors for her play on the soccer field this past fall and for her work in the classroom. She was placed on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Scholar All-Region Honorable Mention Tea. Schmidt holds a 3.894 cumulative grade point average and she led the Great South Athletic Conference with 11 assists and 0.55 assists per game. She is a junior and majors in Not-For-Profit.
  • Hubbard earns All-South Atlantic Region honors for second time

    For the second year in a row, Stephanie Hubbard (Sanford, NC) has earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South Atlantic Region Honors. Last year, Hubbard became the 1st Salem athlete ever to earn all-region honors, and she repeated it again this year with a strong junior campaign.
  • Soccer Earns National Academic Award for Second Straight Year

    The Salem College soccer team earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the 2011-2012 school year. This is the 2nd straight year the team has been honored with the award, which is acquired by having a team cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic school year. The Spirits obtained a team GPA of 3.13 last year.
  • Fall Review: 2012 Soccer Team

    The Salem College soccer team reached great heights in 2012. The team posted the 3rd highest winning percentage in soccer history at .842, just behind the 2007 and 2010 soccer teams. The Spirits were 16-3-1 overall and 9-1 in the Great South. They brought home the first Great South Regular Season Championship in school history.

    The Great South Athletic Conference has announced the 2012 Fall All-Academic award winners and 59 student-athletes from around the league were honored for coupling their athletic prowess with academic pursuits.

    In the final NCAA Division III statistical soccer rankings, the Salem College soccer team made the list in several areas. The Spirits, who finished the season with a 16-3-1 record and a Great South Regular Season Championship, had 6 different players in the rankings. Sawyer Ferguson (Billings, MT) finished the season with an impressive 10 game-winning goals, which was 2nd in the entire nation of over 8,000 athletes.
  • Soccer defeats Spelman 4-0 to move to championship game

    The Salem College soccer team stormed by Spelman 4-0 in the Great South Tournament semifinals. Taylor Norman (Springfield, VA) had a goal and 2 assists in the win. The Spirits won their 16th game, which is a new record for wins in a season and they are currently 16-3.
  • Eight Soccer Players and Coach Callahan Honored by GSAC

    The Great South Athletic Conference announced their women’s soccer postseason award winners on Thursday morning and 8 Salem soccer student-athletes were earned honors. Salem’s Tarryn Bundy (West Deptford, NJ) claimed the prestigious Freshman of the Year distinction while her head coach, Jay Callahan, earned the Coach of the Year nod after guiding the Spirits to the league’s top seed heading into this weekend’s conference tournament. Clara Kienzle from Agnes Scott won the Player of the Year, but she was followed closely by Sawyer Ferguson (Billings, MT) and Stephanie Hubbard (Sanford, NC) who came in 2nd and 3rd in Player of the Year voting.
  • Soccer Earns First Great South Regular Season Championship in School History

    The Salem College soccer team clinched the first-ever Great South Athletic Conference (GSAC) Regular Season Championship in Salem College history today. The Spirits won 6-0 against Wesleyan College to improve to 9-1 in the Great South and 15-3 overall. Based on conference tie-breaker rules, the Spirits win the title over Covenant.

    The Salem College soccer team moved 1 game away from winning the 1st Great South Regular Season Championship in school history. Sawyer Ferguson (Billings, MT) scored twice and assisted another, which put her in 1st all-time at Salem for goals and points in a season. Salem improves to 14-3 overall and 8-1 in the Great South.
  • Soccer's Ketchum Selected Great South Player of the Week

    Paige Ketchum recorded two shutouts this week in two very important Great South wins for Salem. She recorded seven key saves in a 1-0 win against Covenant, and three saves in a 2-0 win against Agnes Scott. The Spirits now have six straight shutouts and improve to 13-3 overall and 7-1 in the GSAC.
  • Soccer set to celebrate Thiel and Younger at senior game

    The Salem College soccer team is set to celebrate 2 seniors Sabrina Thiel (Hillsboro, OH) and Kellie Younger (Manhattan Beach, CA) this Sunday at 1:00. The Spirits will host Georgia Wesleyan in their final regular season match of the year, which is also their senior day.

    The Salem College soccer team had its 1st-ever Alumnae Game on Sunday at the Salem College Soccer Field. The current team beat the alumnae 4-1.
  • Soccer clinches first-ever #1 seed in Great South Tournament

    The Salem College soccer team clinched the school's first-ever #1 seed in a Great South Tournament with a 2-0 victory today against Agnes Scott. Paige Ketchum (Jacksonville, NC) and the Salem defense earned their 6th straight shutout in the victory. The Spirits improved to 12-3 overall with the victory, and to 7-1 in the Great South.

    The Salem College soccer team earned a huge conference win to move into a 1st place tie with Covenant. Salem defeated Covenant 1-0 today in a closely played game. Salem improves to 12-3 overall and 6-1 in the Great South, and Covenant falls to 11-3-1 overall and 6-1 in the Great South.

Sawyer Ferguson (Billings, MT), MacKenzie Schmidt (Columbus, OH), and Tarryn Bundy (West Deptford, NJ) are well represented on this week's NCAA release of DIII soccer statistics.

    Stephanie Hubbard anchored a defense that recorded three shut-outs in a 4-0 week for the Spirits. Hubbard also scored 2 goals and added an assist this week for 5 points. Salem defeated Warren Wilson, Methodist, Huntingdon, and Wesleyan to improve to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in the Great South.
  • Soccer reaches 10th win at Wesleyan

    The Salem College soccer team earned their 10th win of the season today on the road in a 4-0 victory against Wesleyan College. Stephanie Hubbard (Sanford, N.C.) scored two goals and the Spirits out shot the Pioneers 38-0. Salem improves to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in the Great South. This is the 4th straight season Salem soccer has reason at least 10 wins.

    The Salem College soccer team defeated Huntingdon College 3-0 today in Great South action. Sataj Johnson (Corona, CA) scored the game-winning goal in the 7th minute. The Spirits improve to 9-3 overall and to 3-1 in the GSAC.

    Ferguson scored 3 goals to help Salem to a 2-0 week. She scored game-winning goals in road wins over Ferrum and Agnes Scott to help the Spirits to a 6-2 overall record and 2-0 in the GSAC. Ferguson scored twice against the Scotties in a come from behind 2-1 victory.

    The Salem College soccer team defeated Spelman College 2-1 in their first Great South match of the year. The Spirits out-shot the Jaguars 13-7, including 7-2 shots on goal. Salem improves to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the GSAC, and Spelman drops to 1-3 and 0-1.
  • Ferguson Wins Great South Soccer Player of the Week

    Another first-year dynamo, Ferguson has scored 6 goals and added an assist in the Spirits first five games of the season. Her 13 points to date have propelled Salem to a 3-2 start to the season. Ferguson also tallied game-winning goals for the Spirits against Emory & Henry and William Peace to show a flair for the dramatic and earn Player of the Week honors.
