Salem downs Warren Wilson 5-1

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College soccer team scored five minutes into their 2015 season and went on to win 5-1 against Warren Wilson. The Spirits took a 3-0 lead into the break. Jordan Lanier scored two goals in the win. Salem improves to 1-0, while Warren Wilson falls to 1-1.

The Spirits held a 17-9 shot advantage and a 7-2 corner kick advantage. Lanier scored the first goal on an assist by Summer Rich. Sydney Priest struck a direct kick into the top corner in the 20th minute. Maddie Crumpton finished off the first-half scoring in the 43rd minute on an assist from fellow first-year Martha Santos.

Warren Wilson scored in the 54th minute, before Salem shut the door on the Owls. Lanier scored on an assist by Heather Huffman, and Hannah Huskey finished the scoring on a pass by Jasmine Romero. Paige Ketchum earned the win in goal with 4 saves.

Salem heads to the Meredith Classic in Raleigh this weekend.
